Gerard Pique: 'We knew it would be difficult'

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique admits that his side knew that they were in for a tough test against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has admitted that his side knew they were in for a tough test in their Champions League encounter with Borussia Monchengladbach this evening.

The La Liga champions were forced to come from behind at Borussia-Park following Thorgan Hazard's first-half strike for the hosts, but goals from Arda Turan and Pique in the final half-hour ensured that Luis Enrique's men departed Germany with all three points to top Group C.

"We knew it would be a difficult game as they are very dangerous on the counter-attack and very quick," Pique told reporters after the match.

"I think in the first half they scored a goal with the only chance they had, while we wasted several opportunities.

"In the second half we were much better, with more chances, more of the ball and with fewer chances for them. Because Barcelona had more of the ball and didn't commit as many errors, there were fewer turnovers."

Barca return to domestic action with a trip to Celta Vigo on Sunday, ahead of a tough tie with former manager Pep Guardiola's Manchester City when Champions League action resumes on October 19.
