Atletico Madrid 'join Roque Mesa race'

A report claims that Atletico Madrid are attempting to steal Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa from under the noses of Swansea City.

Atletico Madrid will reportedly attempt to steal Roque Mesa from under the noses of Swansea City.

It was claimed earlier this week that Mesa, 28, was on the verge of completing a move to Swansea, with the Welsh outfit agreeing to pay Las Palmas £11m in exchange for the services of the versatile midfielder.

However, according to Diario AS, Atletico have made an offer of £13m over the last 24 hours as the Madrid giants look to poach Mesa from Swansea at the final moment.

Atletico are currently unable to sign any new players due to their transfer ban, and any deal that might occur would be with the view to Mesa moving to Madrid in the January transfer window.

Mesa has represented Las Palmas since 2010, and the Spanish midfielder scored twice and registered two assists in 35 La Liga appearances during the 2016-17 campaign.
