Arsenal winger Willian is reportedly ready to forgo £20m in wages and terminate his contract with the club early in order to secure a summer move to Corinthians.

Willian is reportedly ready to walk away from £20m in wages in order to secure an exit from Arsenal this summer.

The 33-year-old only joined the Gunners on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer, signing an initial three-year deal which still has two years left to run on it.

However, he endured an underwhelming first campaign at the Emirates Stadium, scoring just once in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Willian is currently in talks over a return to Brazil with Corinthians, but his £220,000-a-week wages are proving to be a major hurdle in negotiations.

The Daily Mail reports that the Brazil international has accepted that he is not part of Mikel Arteta's plans for the future and is willing to forgo the remainder of his lucrative contract in order to leave the club this summer, rather than entering protracted talks over a pay-off.

Should the two parties be able to come to an agreement over a mutual termination then that would pave the way for Willian to join Corinthians on substantially reduced wages - a deal which is expected to be completed on Monday.

Willian began his career with Corinthians, joining the club as a 10-year-old in 1998 and progressing through the ranks before leaving for Shakhtar Donetsk in 2007.
