Report: Arsene Wenger to be handed £20m January transfer budget to sign defenders

A report suggests that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will receive a £20m transfer budget in January to sign defenders to solve his side's woes at the back this season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will be handed a transfer budget of £20m to solve his side's defensive woes in January, according to a report.

The Gunners have struggled immensely at the back this season as injuries to Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy, along with the sale of Thomas Vermaelen, have left them short on numbers and quality.

Wenger will receive cash to remedy his side's problems and has lined up potential moves for Celtic's Virgil van Dijk and West Ham United's Winston Reid to solve the crisis, according to The Mirror.

Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League following their defeat to Swansea City on Sunday.
