Everton to beat Arsenal to Virgil van Dijk?

Arsenal will be beaten to the signing of Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk by Everton, according to reports.

Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk is closing in on a move to Roberto Martinez's Everton side, according to reports.

The 23-year-old centre-back, who joined Celtic from Groningen in 2013, has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.

However, the Toffees are now in pole position to complete a £10m deal for the in-demand Dutchman, who they view as the ideal replacement for long-serving defender Sylvain Distin, reports the Daily Mail.

Everton are also expected to face competition from Southampton for Van Dijk's signature.
