Roberto Martinez: 'Sylvain Distin a phenomenal professional'

Roberto Martinez hails Sylvain Distin as a "phenomenal professional" ahead of the French defender's impending exit from Everton.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has paid tribute to Sylvain Distin ahead of the French defender's exit from the club this summer.

The 37-year-old will leave Goodison Park after six years on Merseyside, and the veteran has been linked with a move to newly-promoted Bournemouth.

Martinez told reporters: "In January, Sylvain wanted to leave but it never materialised and from that point on we needed to look to future.

"He's been a phenomenal professional and we wish him the best of luck."

The Toffees slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday.
