Arsenal want to sign both a new defender and midfielder when the January transfer window opens, according to a report.

Arsenal will reportedly attempt to sign both a new defender and midfielder when the January transfer window opens for business.

A busy summer saw the Gunners bring Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares to the club.

However, according to football.london, Arsenal director Edu has already decided on the club's potential next two signings, with a new defender and midfielder set to be targeted at the start of 2022.

The report claims that head coach Mikel Arteta still believes that the team are light in defence despite bringing White, Tomiyasu and Tavares to the club over the summer.

The Gunners could also move for a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window if Bernd Leno, who has dropped behind Ramsdale in the pecking order at the club, moves on.

Arsenal will attempt to make it five straight wins in all competitions when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
