Thierry Henry irked by Arsenal fans over Arsene Wenger abuse

Thierry Henry admits that he thought it was a joke when he heard that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was verbally abused by the club's fans after a defeat to Stoke.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed that he was sickened by the fans' abuse of Arsene Wenger after last month's 3-2 defeat at Stoke City.

Wenger was subjected to expletive-laden abuse from a small number of supporters as he boarded a train following the defeat, where the Gunners trailed 3-0 at the break.

"I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it," Henry told The Telegraph.

"You can be upset, I totally understand that, but when I saw what had happened at Stoke it was totally unnecessary.

"Fans do have a voice but that was out of order. But in the game we have at the moment, that, unfortunately, is the way it is."

The Frenchman brought Henry to North London in 1999 and the pair won five trophies together - two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

The 37-year-old, the Gunners' all-time leading goalscorer, joined up with Sky Sports following his retirement and will kick off his punditry spell for Arsenal's trip to Manchester City on Sunday.
