Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Arsenal

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their Europa League final showdown with Arsenal.

Chelsea are one game away from lifting the Europa League for the second time in two attempts as they take on domestic rivals Arsenal in the Baku final on May 29.

The Blues finished third in the Premier League - an improvement on their fifth-place finish in Antonio Conte's final campaign at the helm - while also coming runners-up in the EFL Cup.

Winning UEFA's secondary competition for the second time in six years would therefore make this a positive first campaign in English football for Maurizio Sarri, even if he has so far failed to truly win over supporters.

Here, Sports Mole has rounds up the West London outfit's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their showdown with Arsenal at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: May 29 (vs. Arsenal)

Kante had recovered from a hamstring injury picked up against Watford on May 5, which kept him out of Chelsea's final two league matches, only to injure his knee in training. The French midfielder is now a major doubt for the final.

Possible return date: Unknown

Rudiger underwent knee surgery after picking up an injury against Manchester United at the end of April. The Germany international will not play again until pre-season at the earliest.

Hudson-Odoi sustained an Achilles injury against Burnley on April 22 and has since undergone surgery. The England international, who had just started to be given a run of games, is potentially facing a whole year on the sidelines.

Ethan Ampadu

Ampadu has been suffering with a back problem sustained on international duty with Wales in March. Chelsea could have him back available in time for the Arsenal match but he is a squad player at best and it is unlikely that he will be risked.

Van Ginkel continues his recovery from a serious knee injury that has seen him go a whole year without playing.

Loftus-Cheek was injured in a charity match that took place Stateside a few days after Chelsea's Premier League season concluded. The English midfielder has undergone surgery and is now expected to sit out the remainder of 2019.

Gary Cahill
