Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that coach Vicente del Bosque told him to play the same way for his country on Sunday that he did during his time at Arsenal.
The former Gunners skipper, who has been heavily linked with a return to the North Londoners, starred in La Roja's 2-1 win over Uruguay in the Confederations Cup on Sunday.
The Barcelona playmaker was allowed a free role in the Spanish lineup due to the absence of the injured Xabi Alonso, and Fabregas relished the chance.
"The boss asked me to play freely," Fabregas told Sky Sports News.
"He knows that when I was at Arsenal that was the position I played in the best, and it worked very well today.
"We played very well, we were very strong in defence and in attack. We had a very good first half."
Fabregas left Arsenal in the summer of 2011.
