Kyle Edmund becomes the new British number one, replacing Andy Murray who had held the status since 2006.

Kyle Edmund has replaced Andy Murray as the new British number one after the latest update of the ATP World Rankings.

Over the past 12 months, Edmund has moved between second and fourth spot but with Dan Evans currently serving a drug-related suspension and Aljaz Bedene now representing Slovenia, the 23-year-old had been in prime position to overtake Murray.

The three-time Major champion has not played a competitive event since losing in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in July, and the Scot now sits in 29th place.

Edmund is ranked in 24th position, despite having not played a match since reaching the Australian Open semi-finals in January.

The Bahamas-based player has been dealing with a hip injury and illness, but is due to return to action at the first Masters Series event in Indian Wells this week.
