Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has revealed that full-back Matty Russell could miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
The Scotland international, who sat out 13 games earlier this year with a similar problem, is facing two months on the sidelines.
"It's a very similar injury to the last one, although it's the other ankle," Smith is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "Today, we'll make a decision on whether we rehab for six weeks and see if it heals or operate and he'll almost definitely be back after about eight weeks.
"The first option is to take a risk and get him back a couple of weeks earlier and he still might need an operation which then could set him back for his off-season.
"So we'll probably opt to have the operation and get him back if we have a good run throughout the Super 8s for some of those important games at the back."
Warrington are back in action on Sunday when they face Hull Kingston Rovers at Headingley Carnegie in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
