Preview: York City vs. Solihull Moors - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between York City and Solihull Moors, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

York City will entertain playoff candidates Solihull Moors in the National League on Tuesday at the York Community Stadium.

Five points behind their opponents despite having played two more matches, David Webb's newly-inherited side will be looking to win back-to-back league games for only the second time this season. Meanwhile, The Moors will be hoping for another win to keep their aspirations of plying their trade in League Two next season alive.

Despite an encouraging start to life in the fifth tier of English football, after promotion from the National League North last season, York City have begun to find their feet again after experiencing a bag of recent mixed results.

The Minstermen secured a 2-0 away victory over Woking on Saturday thanks to goals from Sam Sanders and Lenell John-Lewis despite losing Fraser Kerr to a straight red card shortly after the hour mark.

Prior to their much-needed victory, Manny Duku's 92nd-minute goal salvaged a creditable point for York City last weekend against automatic promotion candidates Wrexham.

Before their notable point against Phil Parkinson's side, York City suffered a 1-0 defeat to Dorking Wanderers in their final match of November.

After only one win in 10 matches across all competitions, Minstermen supporters will be hoping for a more encouraging set of performances across the festive period.

Solihull Moors' match against Aldershot will now be played later in the season after Saturday's scheduled 3pm kickoff had to be postponed due to a frozen pitch at Damson Park.

Neal Ardley's side ended a run of six league matches without a victory against Oldham Athletic at the beginning of December, as goals from Joe Sbarra and Andrew Dallas were enough to secure a narrow 2-1 win.

Staring at the prospect of their first-ever season in the Football League in the club's 15-year history, the West Midlands outfit will head into the game at the York Community Stadium in the highest spirits after re-entering calculations in the National League playoff picture.

Tuesday's meeting will be only the second head-to-head encounter since April 2017, in which York City came away with a 2-1 victory - the side's most recent meeting in August ended in a 1-1 draw.

Team News

Hoping to be back in the dugout after missing the victory over Woking having been admitted to hospital during the week, David Webb will be forced into at least one change, with Nathan Thomas the most likely beneficiary of Fraser Kerr's pending three-match suspension.

Scott Burgess could come into the side in place of Kingsley James after participating in the final 20 minutes of Saturday's match.

Jamey Osborne is again expected to start for Solihull Moors despite suffering an injury scare in the FA Cup first round replay defeat to Hartlepool United.

Top scorer Andy Dallas has scored nine goals in the National League this season and will once again lead The Moors' attack alongside Josh Kelly.

York City possible starting lineup:
Rose; Kouogun, Kerr, Hancox, Whittle; Pybus, Sanders, Dyson, John-Lewis; Duckworth, James

Solihull Moors possible starting lineup:
Boot; Clarke, Coker, Jones, Gudger; Storer, Sbarra, Osborne, Barnett; Kelly, Dallas

We say: York City 1-2 Solihull Moors

With Solihull Moors looking likely to be viable playoff contenders come the end of the regular National League season, Neil Ardley's side should have enough to overcome York City in a tightly-contested affair at the York Community Stadium.
