Transfer news and rumours: Barcelona's Ansu Fati to West Ham, new deal for Forest star, Brighton want Derby defender

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including West Ham United's stance on a bid for Barcelona's Ansu Fati and a potential new deal for a Nottingham Forest star.

West Ham United reportedly have no intention of making an approach for Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati during the January transfer window.

With Graham Potter having recently been appointed as the new Hammers head coach, the Englishman is keen to add to his options in the final third.

As a result of Fati dropping down the pecking order under Hansi Flick, an exit from Camp Nou is regarded as a realistic possibility before the February 3 deadline.

Nevertheless, as per Football Insider, the East Londoners are highly unlikely to pursue a deal for the Spain international.

Former scout Mick Brown, a regular contributor to the outlet, said: "I wouldn't expect West Ham to sign him. It's a dangerous move, because wherever he's been he's had injury issues.

"That's a huge concern, especially when you look at the injuries they've already had this season.

"He didn't exactly shine at Brighton, and now Barcelona want to let him go because they don't think he's going to do it for them."

Fati has made just one start and seven substitute appearances in all competitions during 2024-25.

Forest closing on another new contract?

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have allegedly made progress in their effort to hand Chris Wood a new contract.

On Tuesday evening, the East Midlands outfit confirmed that defender Murillo had extended his stay at the City Ground until 2029.

Next on the agenda for club officials is the future of Wood, the team's leading goalscorer who has less than six months remaining on his existing terms.

According to Sky Sports News, a verbal agreement is in place over a new two-year contract.

Despite having interest from the likes of MLS, Saudi Arabia and across Europe, the New Zealand international is seemingly keen to remain in the Premier League.

A total of 14 goals and two assists have been contributed from his 22 appearances in the top flight during 2024-25.

Brighton fail with bid for Derby star?

Brighton & Hove Albion have allegedly failed with a proposal for Derby County defender Eiran Cashin.

Having come through the youth system at the Rams, the 23-year-old has gone on to make 143 appearances for the first team, scoring six goals.

Any sale of the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international would result in a considerable profit for Derby with regards to the EFL's financial regulations.

Nevertheless, Sky Sports News says that club officials will not be cashing in on the player during the January transfer window.

After five successive defeats, Derby find themselves down in 20th position in the Championship table, one point clear of the relegation zone.

As for Brighton, Fabian Hurzeler is looking to strengthen his defensive ranks courtesy of Igor Julio being ruled out for the remainder of the season.
