Currently three points outside of the playoff spots, League One regulars Wycombe Wanderers will be hoping a win against struggling Cambridge United can help them on their quest for promotion.

The Chairboys will be hoping to earn promotion to the Championship for the first time since 2020-21, but have made a mixed start to the season with two wins, one draw and two losses from their first five games this season.

Last time out in League One, Bloomfield's side came from behind after conceding an early penalty to win 2-1 against Northampton Town on September 14.

In that game, Wycombe dominated in terms of chance creation despite relatively even possession figures between the two sides, and managed to produce three times as many big chances as Northampton.

Over the season so far, Wycombe have demonstrated their attacking capabilities by scoring 10 goals, the joint third highest figure in the division.

However, The Chairboys have also conceded nine goals, the fifth-most of any of League One's 24 teams.

Away side Cambridge United have been in extremely poor form in the opening to their campaign, and boss Garry Monk will be desperate to secure points before his team are cut adrift at the foot of the table.

Two points behind 23rd-placed Shrewsbury, Cambridge have recorded four losses and just one draw from their five games so far.

Stretching back to last season, Monk's team have not won any of their last 14 competitive fixtures, with their last victory coming on April 1 against Wigan Athletic in League One.

In their most recent league match, Monk's team lost 2-1 to eighth-placed Mansfield Town, though to their credit they were competitive and did manage to produce more attempts and big chances than their opponents.

Across 2024-25's League One term so far, Cambridge have scored five goals and conceded nine, meaning that while five teams have netted fewer, just one team has conceded more.

Team News

Wycombe Wanderers boss Bloomfield has mentioned that Luke Leahy and David Wheeler are close to featuring for The Chairboys, though West Ham loanee Gideon Kodua has picked up an injury and will be unavailable.

Likewise, Wycombe also continue to be without Nathan Bishop, Sam Vokes, Brandon Hanlan and Ryan Tafazolli, none of whom are expected to return imminently.

Visitors Cambridge United will be without attacking midfielder Josh Stokes after he picked up a knee injury against Mansfield Town, and he is likely to be out for at least four weeks.

However, Elias Kachunga and Ryan Loft are both back in full training and boss Monk is set to make a decision on their inclusion in the squad to face Wycombe.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Ravizzoli; Harvie, Skura, Low, Grimmer; Humphreys, Morley, Scowen; Udoh, Kone, McCleary

Cambridge United possible starting lineup:
Reyes; Andrew, Digby, Rossi; Longelo, Brophy, Smith, Bennett; Kachunga, Lavery, Barton

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 Cambridge United

Although Wycombe are not the strongest team defensively, they are capable goalscorers and could cause problems for Garry Monk's side.

The return of two forward-thinking players for Cambridge could make for a more competitive affair, but Wycombe can be expected to take all three points on Saturday.
