Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Mike Williamson to miss start of new season

Wolverhampton Wanderers announce that defender Mike Williamson will miss the start of the new season as he continues to struggle with a hamstring injury.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced that defender Mike Williamson faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines after he was ruled out of pre-season.

Williamson is yet to make an appearance for Wolves since making the permanent switch from Newcastle United, and the head of the club's medical department Kevin Thelwell has said that there is no timeline in place for his return.

Thelwell told the club's official website: "Mike just feels like that hamstring tendon isn't quite right. He's still getting some discomfort when he's doing certain movements.

"We took him to see a renowned tendon specialist this week who suggested a few weeks of offloading whilst implementing some novel treatments and then try and build him up again gradually.

"It looks like he's going to be missing from training for the next four weeks. These tendon problems don't respond well to changes in load and it's a really tricky situation for Mike and everyone involved. He's keen to get back in and is very frustrated by it but there's still not a definitive timeline."

Wolves made the decision to sign the 32-year-old after he impressed during a five-match loan spell during the first half of the campaign.
