Mark Noble: 'West Ham United fortunate to avoid heavier defeat'

Mark Noble claims that things 'cannot get any worse' for West Ham United after being outclassed by Southampton to find themselves inside the bottom three.

West Ham United skipper Mark Noble has confessed that his side have Adrian to thank for avoiding an even heavier defeat at home to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers were second best at the London Stadium as they fell to their fifth defeat in six outings this season to remain inside the Premier League relegation zone.

Southampton ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in the end, with Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse all registering from the Saints' nine attempts on target.

Speaking to Sky Sports News at full time, Noble said: "I thought we started all right and then 'bang', we conceded a goal and to be honest we never looked back in it.

"If I'm honest it could have been six in the end. Adrian pulled off some good saves and on the bright side, I don't think it can get any worse."

West Ham are back in action next weekend when they face London rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
