Tim Sherwood urges Tottenham Hotspur to make quick decision

Tim Sherwood says that he only wants the Tottenham Hotspur job on a long-term basis and believes that a decision needs to be made soon.

Tottenham Hotspur interim coach Tim Sherwood has said that he hopes a new manager is appointed at the club "sooner rather than later".

Spurs beat Southampton 3-2 on Sunday afternoon to stay in touch with the top four, but Sherwood believes that the situation needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

"I never said I wanted the job and I never said I don't want the job. I've got to talk to the chairman and see where they want to take this football club," Sherwood told Sky Sports News.

When pressed on when Andre Villas-Boas's successor should be named, he continued: "Sooner rather than later as these players need a manager.

"Hopefully I will speak to the chairman tonight. I don't want it (the job) on a temporary basis. I want it for the long term. It's got huge tradition but at the end of the day it's got to be right for me."

Spurs are seventh in the Premier League table.
