Harry Kane will attract a world-record transfer fee if he leaves Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid at the end of the season, according to Spurs legend Darren Anderton.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton has warned Real Madrid that they will have to hand over up to £200m if they are to nab Harry Kane next summer.

The England international has finished as top scorer in each of the last two Premier League seasons, earning links with a switch to European champions Madrid.

Kane has made an impressive start to the 2017-18 campaign, too, scoring 15 goals in his last 10 games for club and country, including winners in both of the Three Lions' October qualifiers.

Following strong suggestions that Madrid could make a move at the end of the season, Anderton has insisted that it will take a world-record sum to push through a transfer.

"You hope he's Tottenham through and through," he told PA. "The way he plays and the way he acts, it certainly looks like he's happy where he is and hopefully he doesn't forget that. I think he'll want to complete his journey at Tottenham.

"He'll want to play in that new stadium and he'll want to be part of the Tottenham team that wins the league. But the club have got to go with him on that. If the offer comes in from say Real Madrid, it will be up to Spurs to turn it down. If you look at his age, his talent, the way he is, he's got to be worth around £150m, even £200m now.

"If they say yes, Harry will get the chance to speak to them and I'm sure if he walks into the Bernabeu with an opportunity to sign, he'd find it very difficult not to. And would you blame him? You couldn't, absolutely not. Harry can score a goal from any situation and as players you like to see someone leading the line."

Spurs lost Gareth Bale to Madrid in 2013 for a then-record sum of £85m, while Luka Modric headed the same direction a year beforehand.
