Carlo Ancelotti: 'Fabio Coentrao will start against Borussia Dortmund'

Fabio Coentrao will replace Marcelo in Real Madrid's starting XI for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Fabio Coentrao will start Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund.

The Portuguese will replace Marcelo, who will be out of action for the next two weeks with a hamstring injury.

It had been speculated that Gareth Bale, who started his career as a left-back, could feature in Marcelo's position, but Ancelotti has quelled such claims.

"Coentrao has experience for this game and he has fresh legs to replace Marcelo. We have Nacho, [Raphael] Varane and [Sergio] Ramos to play in the back row. Bale is not an option for this position," Ancelotti told reporters at a press conference.

The first leg will take place at the Bernabeu.
