Barcelona boss Xavi insists that Ousmane Dembele - out of contract next summer - is "very happy" at Camp Nou.

Barcelona boss Xavi has insisted that Ousmane Dembele is "very happy" at Camp Nou amid the constant speculation surrounding the attacker's future.

Dembele, who returned from a hamstring problem in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Benfica, only has little over six months left to run on his contract with the Catalan giants.

Barcelona are desperately working to sign the France international to an extension, but Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea are said to be pushing to acquire his services on a free transfer.

As it stands, the World Cup winner will be free to talk to foreign clubs in January with the view to agreeing a pre-contract, but Xavi remains hopeful that the Catalan giants will be able to keep hold of him.

"I have spoken to him and he's very happy here," Xavi told reporters. "We're going to try and let's see if we can renew [his contract] because, for me, he's a key piece."

The 24-year-old has scored 30 goals and registered 21 assists in 120 appearances for Barcelona since joining the club in a big-money move from Borussia Dortmund in August 2017.
