Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly won the race for young Rochdale prospect Luke Matheson and expect to announce the deal in the coming hours.
The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract with the League One club in October, just one month after he scored the equaliser for his side against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup.
That appearance led to interest from a string of top-flight sides, including United themselves, but BBC Sport say that Wolves have now sealed a deal.
As part of the arrangement - thought to be worth £1m - Matheson will be immediately loaned back to Rochdale for the rest of the season as they look to push on up the table.
Matheson, who has been capped at under-17 and under-18 level for England, is expected to undergo his medical with Wolves this afternoon.
