Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is hoping that the club will extend his expiring contract.

Rio Ferdinand has once again insisted that he would like to continue his career with Manchester United.

The 34-year-old, whose current deal is due to expire this summer, confirmed during yesterday's Premier League trophy celebrations that he was eager to sign a new contract with the club.

Speaking more in-depth about his situation to MUTV, the centre-back stressed his desire to force his way into the plans of manager David Moyes, who will replace Sir Alex Ferguson in July.

"Manchester United has a bright future. The manager has left the club in great health and we are looking forward. We have a great number of good young players who are eager to win things and be successful and work hard," he said.

"That is what the manager has instilled in these players. The work ethic has to continue if we are going to be successful. I would like to be part of that."

Ferdinand joined the Red Devils from Leeds United back in 2002.
