Borussia Dortmund consigned to losing Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United?

Borussia Dortmund target Wolfsburg midfielder Andre Schurrle as a replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is said to be on the brink of joining Manchester United.

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly opened negotiations with Wolfsburg's Andre Schurrle as they seek to find a replacement for Manchester United-bound midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenia international is already thought to have been the subject of one failed move from the Red Devils, who fell just short of Dortmund's valuation with their rumoured £27.5m offer.

It has now been reported by The Sun that the German outfit are expecting a second bid to be tabled in the coming days, and they have now turned to former Chelsea ace Schurrle to fill the gap left by Mkhitaryan.

Dortmund had been reluctant to allow the 27-year-old to leave following the departures of Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan already this summer, the latter of whom joined United's local rivals Manchester City, but the player's agent has made it clear that a move is likely to happen.

United boss Jose Mourinho, named as Louis van Gaal's successor in May, is said to be after three more signings ahead of the new season following the earlier arrival of Eric Bailly from Villarreal.
