West Ham United manager David Moyes reveals that a move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard failed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unwilling to let him leave.

West Ham United manager David Moyes revealed that the Irons were unable to sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard in the summer due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's desire to keep him at Old Trafford.

The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at Moyes's side, netting nine goals and registering five assists in 16 Premier League appearances.

Such form led to growing reports of a permanent deal being planned, with only a year remaining on his current Manchester United contract.

However, Moyes recently revealed that the talks collapsed as Solskjaer was unwilling to let the midfielder depart Old Trafford, saying: "No nothing like that at all," when asked if Lingard turned down a permanent move to the London side, ahead of their clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Scottish manager continued, saying: "Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] made it clear to me quite early in the transfer window that he wanted to keep him. So I knew pretty early in the transfer window that he was staying at Manchester United. I had a private conversation with Ole who made it clear that he was staying."

The 28-year-old is yet to start a game for the Red Devils this season but did net a late goal off the bench in their 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.
