Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to a report.
The 23-year-old, who has not featured for the Bundesliga outfit this season due to a knee injury sustained earlier this year, is also thought to be attracting interest from reigning European champions Bayern Munich.
According to Calciomercato, Zakaria has decided not to renew his contract with Gladbach, which expires in 2022.
The Switzerland international's contract situation could make him an even more appealing proposition for Man City boss Pep Guardiola, who has lost the likes of Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan in central midfield through injury and illness respectively for large spells of this season.
After Zakaria suffered a setback in his recovery in October, Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl admitted the Champions League club have missed his presence in midfield.
"With his dynamics, speed, aggressiveness and intense runs in behind, he is enormously important for our game," Eberl said in an interview with Sport Bild.
"It's no secret that we miss him a lot and that he's not easy to replace."
Zakaria joined Gladbach from Swiss side Young Boys in 2017 and has gone on to make almost 100 appearances for the club in all competitions.
