Fernandinho: 'Gabriel Jesus will become a special talent at Manchester City'

Manchester City's Fernandinho says that he "cannot wait" for Gabriel Jesus to arrive at the Etihad Stadium in the New Year, backing his compatriot to make a big impact.

Fernandinho has backed Brazil international teammate Gabriel Jesus to make a big impact at Manchester City when he officially arrives at the club.

The 19-year-old bagged two goals on his full debut for the Selecao against Ecuador on Friday evening, less than two weeks after helping his nation to Olympic glory at the Maracana.

City signed Jesus from Brazilian side Palmeiras for £27m last month, but decided to send him straight back out on loan until the New Year when he will be asked to link up with Sergio Aguero and Kelechi Iheanacho in attack.

Speaking to the club's official website, Fernandinho said: "I've watched some games while he was playing with Palmeiras and I really like him. He did well during the Olympics and scored twice on his full debut against Ecuador so he's doing really well and is a great talent. He has helped take Palmeiras to the top of the league and City have done a great job by bringing him to the club.

"He is a true Brazilian player and plays with style, likes to dribble a lot and plays with the kind of flair associated with Brazil footballers. People back home have been saying a lot of good things about him and when Neymar left for Barcelona, he became the player in the spotlight.

"Of course, he is very young and needs to improve and grow but in all honesty I can't wait for him to arrive and start playing for us because I think he will do really well for us."

Jesus is one of 10 players City paid a fee to land during the summer transfer window, sitting behind only Ilkay Gundogan (£42.5m) and John Stones (£47.5) in terms of valuation.
