Liverpool reportedly agree personal terms with RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate on a five-year deal, and the Reds will now trigger his £30.5m release clause.

Liverpool are reportedly set to secure the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield in the past few weeks, although he recently affirmed that he had not been contacted by the Reds over a proposed move.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano now claims that Konate has agreed personal terms with Liverpool and is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Jurgen Klopp's team.

Romano adds that Liverpool are set to trigger the €35m (£30.5m) release clause in Konate's Leipzig contract within the next few days, but there is no knowledge as to what this might mean for Ozan Kabak's future at the club.

Konate is now seemingly set to follow compatriot Dayot Upamecano out of Leipzig exit door, but the Bundesliga side have struck a deal for Strasbourg's Mohamed Simakan ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Konate's season has been hampered by injuries and he has made just six Bundesliga starts this term, while he has amassed a total of four goals in 92 appearances for Leipzig since joining from Sochaux in 2017.
