Alan Irvine "not having" Steven Gerrard criticism

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine dismisses criticism of Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has rejected suggestions that Steven Gerrard's influence is on the wane at Liverpool.

The Reds skipper was part of the side that beat Irvine's team 2-1 on Saturday, but the former England captain has come under fire for some of his displays this term.

However, Irvine dismissed the criticism of Gerrard and highlighted the Liverpool midfielder's performance against his side as evidence to support his opinion.

He told reporters: "Gerrard finished? I'm not having that. Anybody that says his legs have gone needs to have a look at the time when he chased Cristian Gamboa down the wing and he stayed with him.

"He is a great player, has been for many years and will continue to be."

Gerrard announced his international retirement after the World Cup.
