Hello and welcome to Sports Mole’s live coverage of the Premier League game between Hull City and Liverpool. It promises to be an exciting contest and you can follow all the action as it happens on this page.

HULL CITY XI: McGregor, Elmohamady, Figueroa, Davies, Bruce, Meyler, Huddlestone, Livermore, Brady, Koren, Sagbo

Subs: Harper, Rosenior, Faye, Chester, Graham, Boyd, Gedo

LIVERPOOL XI: Mignolet, Flanagan, Toure, Skrtel, Johnson, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Moses, Sterling, Suarez

Subs: Jones, Agger, Sakho, Allen, Alberto, Aspas, Coutinho

KICKOFF Hull get the action underway at the KC Stadium.

As expected, Liverpool have made a positive start to the match and are pressing on their hosts. They earn a corner but the Yorkshire club comfortably fend it off.

Liverpool are hogging possession at the moment and are in control of the contest. They have just earned their third corner of the match. Can they go ahead?

No, they cannot as once again Hull defend well and clear the danger away with ease.

Hull try to launch an attack now a good through-ball is sent through to Yannick Sagbo, who is caught offside. That was probably the first attack the hosts have created this afternoon.

Ten minutes gone and it is still goalless between Hull City and Liverpool. There has not been a clear-cut chance yet from either side, although the Reds have been the better team so far.

A mistake from Maynor Figueroa almost costs Hull a goal as he allows Luis Suarez to get past him and then put in a ball from the right. However, the hosts manage to clear the danger away.

CHANCE! Surprise, surprise, it is Hull who come the closest to breaking the deadlock at the KC Stadium. The hosts earn their first corner that Alex Bruce swings in and Curtis Davies heads just wide.

GOAL! Hull City 1-0 Liverpool (Jake Livermore)

Hull City surge ahead just as their fans were making their wonted 19th-minute protest against the changing of the name! The Reds lose possession cheaply outside their box and Ahmed El Mohamady slips the ball to Jake Livermore, who finds the net thanks to a huge deflection from Martin Skrtel.

It’s game on at the KC Stadium now as Liverpool have to score two goals at least to win this match. Hull have never beaten the Reds, but history could be rewritten today.

Hull are looking very buoyant and enthusiastic now that they have scored the opening goal.

YELLOW CARD Curtis Davies becomes the first player of the afternoon to be booked for his challenge on Jordan Henderson just outside the Hull penalty box. Good range for Steven Gerrard or Luis Suarez to score...

GOAL! Hull City 1-1 Liverpool (Steven Gerrard)

Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain, does it once again for the Reds as he scores directly with the free kick. It is a brilliant kick as well, sent right at the far bottom corner, giving Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor no chance whatsoever.

Half an hour gone and it is 1-1 between Hull and Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers’ side have not been particularly impressive so far and have failed to really click with their passing moves, while the hosts have looked defensively good.

The Reds coming out at Hull in droves as Henderson and Gerrard try to play a one-two just outside the box, but Steve Bruce’s side are alert defensively and smother the danger.

This has been an enjoyable game with both teams playing with pace, but I can observe a discernible lack of quality and technical skills. Suarez, who is perhaps the most talented footballer in the pitch, has yet to really gel this afternoon. Having said all that, I have to admit that Hull have been very competitive and have not let the Reds have it on their own terms.

Raheem Sterling has been struggling as well on the wing. The 18-year-old should really take these chances he gets and make the most of them, but he looks off-form today.

Tom Huddlestone tries to catch Simon Mignolet with a long-range effort, but the Liverpool goalkeeper is smart enough to collect the ball with ease. Except the two goals, chances have not really been at the KC Stadium.

Five minutes to half time. Hull still holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw and are keeping their attackers at bay.

Sterling now tries to thread in a shot from the edge of the Hull penalty box, but he finds his attempt blocked. He really is struggling today. I wonder if manager Brendan Rodgers will take him off at the break.

YELLOW CARD Yellow card for Robert Brady for simulation. He goes down just as he enters the Liverpool penalty box but the referee sees that Lucas had pulled out of the challenge.

CHANCE! Better from Sterling as he sends through Suarez on goal on the left side of the Hull area, but the Uruguayan’s shot is easily saved by McGregor.

HALF TIME: Hull City 1-1 Liverpool

The referee blows the half-time whistle as it finishes 1-1 between Hull City and Liverpool at the break. The hosts went ahead against the run of play after 20 minutes through a deflected Jake Livermore strike, but Steven Gerrard put the Reds back into the contest with a brilliant free kick.

This has not been the best of first halves I have watched this season despite both sides scoring, but it has been very competitive. Hull may be struggling against relegation, but they have looked very comfortable in defence and have kept the likes of Suarez and Victor Moses at bay.

In fact, I would say that the 1-1 score is a fair reflection of the game. Liverpool had 63% of the possession in the first 45 minutes, but they could manage only two shots on target and four in total. What about Hull, you ask? Two shots on target from five and just 37% of possession.

The second half will begin shortly and Liverpool fans will be hoping for a better display. They need to be passing the ball better and use their superior technical skills to get the better of Hull, who appear to be happy just sitting back and soaking the pressure. And indeed, the hosts look comfortable doing what they are doing.

The second half will begin shortly as the two sets of players are getting ready to come out on the pitch.

KICKOFF And we are off. It’s 1-1 between Hull and Liverpool from the first half.

CHANCE! Liverpool make a positive start as Suarez goes for goal from a very tight angle on the right, but McGregor makes a good save at his near post. The Uruguayan striker should probably have put in a cross instead of shooting.

Cynical challenge from Brady as he brings down Sterling near the right touchline. He is already on a yellow card, so he needs to be careful. It was good play from the Liverpool youngster as he is good at running at defenders and must make use of his talents and skills.

The spectators at the KC Stadium are in loud voice at the moment. The Hull fans know that a point against high-flying Liverpool will be a massive result for them.

However, the home team need to stem the flow of the game at the moment. Liverpool are pushing forward in droves and are playing with the ball in and around the Hull penalty box. Bruce’s players must try to keep the Reds further up the pitch.

A half-chance for Hull as Robert Koren, released down the right, floats in a cross intended for Yannick Sagbo, but Kolo Toure brilliantly heads it away.

Brady was down on the pitch following a clash of heads. He is okay now and is all set to continue. Still 1-1 between Hull and Liverpool at the KC Stadium.

Now Victor Moses gets into the action as he earns a corner for the Reds which the visitors fail to capitalise on. Moses has been rather quiet so far this afternoon; he needs to step up his game as well.

CHANCE! Hull go close to taking the lead, this time Davies’s header from 12 yards from a Brady free kick goes just wide.

The Tigers have stepped up their game and are driving towards the Liverpool. They are pushing themselves as much as they can in search of their second goal and are really putting the Reds defence under pressure.

Hull leave themselves flat at the back and Suarez almost gets at the end of a loose ball, but McGregor makes an important catch of the ball.

Brilliant defending from defender Martin Skrtel as he clears away a Hull cross just in time.

SUBSTITUTION Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers makes his first change of the match. Raheem Sterling, who was quiet in the first half and showed flashes of his class in the second, is replaced by the technically brilliant Philippe Coutinho.

SUBSTITUTION Hull City also make a change. Liam Rosenior comes on for Robert Koren.

Brilliant play from Elmohamady as he earns Hull a corner which they fail to capitalise on. The home side believe that they can win today.

CHANCE! Suarez is nicely teed up just outside the Hull penalty box and he takes a shot on goal, but his effort goes wide of the far post.

CHANCE! Tom Huddlestone goes close for Hull as he tries to curl one in from the edge of the box, but his effort goes just wide of Mignolet’s goal.

CHANCE! Brilliant save from McGregor, one that keeps Hull in the game. Suarez volleys the ball into the area from the right and Moses turns it towards goal, but cannot get it past the Hull custodian.

GOAL! Hull City 2-1 Liverpool (David Meyler)

Sensational play from Hull City as they take the lead in the game for the second time! David Meyler’s initial shot is blocked but the ball goes back to him kindly, and he makes no mistake with his second effort. Liverpool should have done better to clear away the danger when the ball was initially pumped in!

Hull are hungry for more as Sagbo does brilliantly with the ball, cutting in from the flank and then playing the ball towards the end of the Liverpool box. However, he cannot find any of his teammates. Meanwhile, Luis Alberto has come on for Victor Moses for Liverpool.

CHANCE! Brilliant turn from Suarez to get away from his marker on the edge of the box, but a disappointing shot that Bruce blocks.

Just over 10 minutes remain in this contest. Can Liverpool find an equalier or will Hull be able to hold on for an historic win?

CHANCE! Luis Suarez goes so so close with a free kick from over 30 yards. He curls it with his right foot aiming for the top-right corner, but just about fails to find the target. Having said that, Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor probably had it covered anyway.

Hull are still surging on for a goal even though logic suggests that they should just sit back and soak the pressure for a 2-1 win! Ahmed Elmohamady and Yannick Sagbo both are in their attacking movement down the right that eventually fails to yield anything productive.

Five minutes left in the match. Hull leading Liverpool 2-1.

CHANCE! Yannick Sagbo has a great chance to finish off the game as he is sent through on goal, but he shoots straight at Simon Mignolet from inside the area.

GOAL! Hull City 3-1 Liverpool (Martin Skrtel OG)

Hull City wrap up the points with their third goal of the match as they go 3-1 up against Liverpool at the KC Stadium. Sagbo is the architect of the goal as he finds himself with the ball inside the Reds penalty box on the left. He is patient with the ball as the Liverpool defenders wait for him to make the move and then sets up Tom Huddlestone, whose goalward effort is headed in by Martin Skrtel for an own goal.

SUBSTITUTION Yannick Sagbo is taken off and on comes Danny Graham.

Four minutes of injury time have been added.

CHANCE! Ahmed Elmohamady goes on a long solo run down the right after being released by a wonderful ball from Danny Graham, but his final effort on goal from the right goes wide of the mark.

SUBSTITUTION George Boyd comes on for Hull in place of Robert Brady.

FULL TIME: Hull City 3-1 Liverpool

It’s all over at the KC Stadium as Hull City have defeated Liverpool 3-1 in the Premier League. This is the first time that the Tigers have got the better of the Merseyside club in any competition in history and, I have to say, they deserved to win this contest today.

A deflected effort from Jake Livermore gave the hosts the lead after 20 minutes, but Steven Gerrard equalised for the Reds just seven minutes later with a brilliant free kick. Hull stepped up their game in the second half and restored their one-goal advantage in the 72nd minute when David Meyler scored. Then with three minutes of normal time remaining, an own goal from Martin Skrtel put the Tigers 3-1 up and put the game beyond Liverpool.

The result means that Liverpool slip to third in the table with 24 points from 13 matches, as Chelsea have a better goal difference at the moment. Meanwhile, Hull rise up to 10th, seven points above the relegation zone.

I hope that you enjoyed our coverage of yet another brilliant and sensational Premier League game here on Sports Mole. Thank you very much for joining me and hope that you have a good evening. It’s goodbye from me for now.
