Jaroslav Drobny saved an early penalty as Hamburger SV earned a point with a goalless draw against Freiburg in the Bundesliga.

Freiburg were gifted the chance to take the lead in just the second minute when Ronny foolishly brought down Felix Kraus inside the box.

Valdimir Darida stepped up from 12 yards, but missed the opportunity to put the hosts ahead as Drobny guessed correctly to come to the rescue for his side.

The visitors grew in confidence after surviving the early scare, with Pierre-Michel Lasogga climbing highest in a congested box to send a powerful header just wide.

However, both sides would struggle to create chances from open play in the first half, as the defenders enjoyed superiority for long spells.

Drobny was forced into action again after the break to keep out a firm header from Kraus, who threatened to take full advantage of the space gifted to him at a Christian Gunter corner.

Petr Jiracek came close to snatching victory for the away side late on with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, but Freiburg stopper Roman Burki got a strong hand to the ball as both sides had to settle for a point.
