Everton midfielder Steven Naismith admits that he is relieved to have scored his first goal for the club.

Everton midfielder Steven Naismith has admitted that he hopes he can build on scoring his first goal for the club in the Merseyside derby.

The former Rangers player scored Everton's equaliser in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool and Naismith has admitted that he hopes he can use it as a stepping stone to recapture the form he produced before he suffered a cruciate ligament injury last year.

Naismith said: "At least I'm off the mark now for Everton and I can build on it. This first period is about settling in and getting used to the training.

"I never came expecting to play every week. But I work hard every day to get back to where I was before and this was just another step towards that."

Naismith has featured 10 times for Everton since his move from Rangers in the summer.
