Stuart Pearce: Gary Neville England manager suggestions are "incredible"

Stuart Pearce says that Gary Neville needs more experience before being considered a possible England manager.

Stuart Pearce has said that Gary Neville needs to gain managerial experience before being considered for the England job.

Terry Butcher claimed yesterday that Neville will replace Roy Hodgson, but Pearce disagrees with his former England teammate.

"You only really know what it's like to manage when you're in that technical area and you're the manager," Pearce told BBC Sport.

"To even suggest that Gary could take over, for me, is incredible really. The top job in English football, you need experience and I think you have to gain that experience by managing either at club level, at international level, or hopefully a mixture of both.

"Gary will get that eventually, but I think he needs, like anybody, to gain the experience, maybe in club football, as a manager and after that probably in international football as well."

Pearce managed England Under-21s between 2007 and 2013. He left his role as Nottingham Forest manager in February.
