Martin Braithwaite reportedly agrees to sign for Espanyol after accepting to mutually end his contract at Barcelona.

Espanyol have reportedly agreed to sign Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite on deadline day.

Given the influx of players which have arrived and may still arrive at Camp Nou, Barcelona have spent all summer trying to offload the Denmark international.

Head coach Xavi has also previously acknowledged that the 31-year-old will play no part in his plans for the current campaign.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan giants finally made the breakthrough with regards to a mutual contract termination on Wednesday.

With Braithwaite becoming a free agent, he did not necessarily have to agree to sign for a new club before close of business on Thursday.

Nevertheless, Romano has now claimed that a deal has been agreed with Espanyol with Braithwaite due to undergo a medical at the La Liga side.

Espanyol are said to have agreed a three-year contract with the versatile attacker, who will have been partly influenced by the opportunity to remain in Barcelona.

Braithwaite leaves his current club having contributed 10 goals and five assists from his 58 appearances in all competitions.
