Ron Vlaar hails "massive point" for Aston Villa

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar says that the 0-0 draw with Southampton this afternoon is a "massive point" for the Villains' survival prospects.

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar believes that the 0-0 draw with Southampton this afternoon represents a "massive point" for the Villains' survival prospects.

Paul Lambert's men had been dragged back into the relegation dogfight having slumped to four successive Premier League defeats in recent weeks.

The stalemate at Villa Park brings the West Midlands outfit up to 35 points, five clear of the drop zone, and the Dutchman has said that one more victory is essential to preserve their top-flight status.

"It's a point and after four losses we'll take it. We worked really hard to change something after the last few weeks," he told Sky Sports News.

"We'll look forward now and take the point. Thirty-five points - we definitely need another win. This is a good start for the next games.

"We work from one game to another. It's not easy - we'll work really hard. But today was great with the fans behind us and I think it's a massive point for us."

Lambert's side travel to South Wales next weekend for a clash with Swansea City.
