Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has told several members of his squad to look for new clubs during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Foxes have endured a disappointing campaign following several years of success in and around the Premier League top four, with an eighth-place finish the best that they can hope for in their remaining three games of the season.

As a result, the East Midlands side will not compete in European football for the first time in three seasons, meaning their fixture schedule will not be quite so hectic in the 2022-23 campaign.

Leicester's progression through to this year's Europa Conference League semi-finals meant that as many as 19 cup games were played throughout the season, including 14 in Europe.

Speaking on the subject of fewer opportunities for fringe players resulting in them having to search for new clubs in the summer, Rodgers said: "It's very difficult. I've already spoken to a number of players on that.

"We played 19 cup games this season, which is half of a season of games. Like what I've always done here, we'll always give everything in the cups. But we're a European competition down next season. It's very difficult.

"I also think there's maybe been players here that need for their own careers to get more game-time. If they really want to push themselves as players and go and show they can have a career in the game, it's probably beneficial for them that they can go and get some game-time.

"Having no European football next year means less games and less opportunities."

Among the potential departures could be the likes of Hamza Choudhury, Ayoze Perez and Caglar Soyuncu, who all enter the final 12 months of their contracts in June, whilst Youri Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.
