Arsenal, Manchester City 'open Mikel Arteta talks'

Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly meeting for talks about the Gunners' interest in Mikel Arteta becoming their new head coach.

Talks have reportedly begun between Arsenal and Manchester City over the possibility of Mikel Arteta replacing Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium.

Emery was sacked last month and replaced by Freddie Ljungberg in the interim, with the club's hierarchy said to be committed to a thorough search for a new coach.

According to Sky Sports News, talks between Arsenal and Arteta's current club have begun with the Gunners chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and lawyer Huss Fahmy photographed leaving the Spaniard's home last night.

The report added that Venkatesham and Fahmy spent two-and-a-half hours speaking with Arteta at his home, adding that the club are looking for someone available immediately.

The former Gunners midfielder retired in 2016 after five years with the club, before joining Manchester City as an assistant to Pep Guardiola.

Arteta was in the frame for the Arsenal job after Arsene Wenger retired in 2018, but was overlooked with the club deciding on Emery.
