Preview: Altrincham vs. Wealdstone - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Altrincham and Wealdstone, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Altrincham play host to Wealdstone on Tuesday night looking for the victory that will keep the club in the National League promotion race.

At a time when the home side occupy ninth position in the standings, Wealdstone are down in 15th spot and looking to avoid a relegation battle.

Match preview

Since the first weekend of 2024, Altrincham have quirkily not drawn a single game in 15 outings, a run that has its pros and cons.

As many as eight defeats have been posted during that period, including a five-match losing streak during February and into March.

However, despite losing 3-2 at home to Gateshead last time out, Phil Parkinson will be relatively content that nine points have come from a possible 15.

Parkinson requires more of the same from the Robins who are very much in the hunt for a playoff spot, with the club just three points behind fifth spot but with a significantly better goal difference.

While Altrincham have lost three of their last five matches at Moss Lane, they remain with the sixth-best home record in the division.

Staying on the theme of unusual statistics and Wealdstone have suffered back-to-back defeats on just one occasion since the middle of October, despite sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

That has occurred at a time when just three victories have been registered in 13 games to leave everyone associated with the club looking over their shoulder.

David Noble's side do have games in hand, though, and they may be required when failing to take advantage of taking a 1-0 lead over relegation rivals Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, ultimately being held to a 1-1 draw.

Wealdstone may welcome the opportunity to return on their travels on the back of accumulating seven points from their last three away fixtures, with each of York City and AFC Fylde being defeated.

Team News

Despite defeat to Gateshead, Parkinson may be against making major changes to his Altrincham XI.

Dan Mooney is pushing for a start after scoring as a substitute in that game, with Justin Amaluzor seemingly in line to drop down to the replacements.

Liam Brockbank remains on the sidelines with the knee injury that he sustained in January.

Noble has been rotating his players in light of the hectic schedule and it would come as no surprise if more alterations came here.

Aaron Henry and Manny Duku could return in midfield and attack respectively, with Max Kretzschmar and Sean Adarkwa dropping out.

Altrincham possible starting lineup:
Ross; Donawa, Cooper, Baines, Banks; Conn-Clarke, Wilson; Newby, Osborne, Kosylo; Mooney

Wealdstone possible starting lineup:
Dewhurst; Barker, Cook, Barrett, Mundle-Smith; Young, Henry; Smith, Bowen, Mason; Duku

We say: Altrincham 2-1 Wealdstone

Given Altrincham's lack of consistency, Wealdstone will sense an opportunity to cause an upset in the North West. However, we are backing the home side to do what is necessary to collect three points and potentially move into the top six in the process.
