Aston Villa reportedly give the green light for Louie Barry to move to a Championship club on loan for the rest of the season.

Aston Villa have reportedly determined which Championship club will loan Louie Barry for the rest of the season.

The versatile attacker spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Stockport County, the plan having initially been to see out the 2024-25 season at Edgeley Park.

However, a total of 15 goals and three assists being contributed from 23 League One appearances led to Villa's hierarchy deciding that the 21-year-old was ready for a step up to Championship football.

Despite being loaned out on several occasions since 2021-22, the former England Under-18 international is yet to experience the second tier of English football.

According to Radio Humberside journalist James Hoggarth, who was commenting on X, Villa have given the green light for a Championship side to finalise a deal.

Who has won Louie Barry race?

Hoggarth says that Barry has been provided with permission to undergo a medical ahead of a temporary switch to Hull City.

The Tigers are currently enduring a dismal Championship campaign, sitting in 19th position in the table with seven wins from 29 matches.

Ruben Selles can claim to be spearheading a revival, however, with away victories having been recorded at Millwall and Sheffield United.

Hull officials have allowed Selles to make an array of changes to his squad since the turn of the year, adding attack-minded players such as Lincoln and Joe Gelhardt to his ranks.

Nevertheless, it appears that Barry will be the next arrival at the MKM Stadium, the expectation being that he will have a leading role to play.

Why have Villa shunned bigger clubs?

Reports earlier in the month suggested that the likes of Leeds United and Middlesbrough were monitoring the situation, as well as many other unnamed second-tier sides.

From Villa's perspective, though, they naturally want Barry to earn as many minutes as possible, that potentially not possible at the aforementioned clubs.

Leeds are already stacked with options for the final third and Middlesbrough have just spent £8m to sign Morgan Whittaker from Plymouth Argyle.

Providing that he passes a medical, Barry could feature in the squad for Saturday's important fixture with fellow relegation candidates Stoke City.
