Alize Cornet hopes to emulate Marion Bartoli

France's Alize Cornet hopes that she can follow compatriot Marion Bartoli by winning Wimbledon after knocking out top seed Serena Williams.

Alize Cornet has said that she hopes to have the "same destiny" as compatriot and 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli as she prepares for the fourth round at SW19.

The 24-year-old knocked world number one Serena Williams out in her last match, leaving her as the final Frenchwoman in the ladies singles draw this year.

The world number 24 told Sky Sports News: "What better way than to beat Serena and get through to the second week.

"My first appearance in the last 16 of a grand slam, at the Australian Open [in 2009], feels a thousand years ago.

"I am super happy but my tournament isn't over. If I could have the same destiny as Marion last year, I'd sign for it straight away."

Cornet faces Canada's Eugenie Bouchard in the last 16 tomorrow.
