Andy Roddick has advanced to the second round of the Shanghai Masters after a three-sets victory over Thailand's Yen-Hsun Lu.
The former world number one took the first set comfortably, winning 6-2, but then faltered in the second, missing four opportunities to break and losing 3-6.
Roddick regained his composure in the final set and took it 6-2, finishing the match in just under two hours of play.
He will now go on to face Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the next round.
