Former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero has advanced through to the second round of the Shanghai Masters with a straight-sets victory over Mikhail Youzhny.
The opening set proved to be a lengthy affair, with Ferrero eventually prevailing as the winner 7-4 on a tie-break.
Both players continued to hold their serve during the second set, until Youzhny's resistance was broken in the final game of the match to allow his Spanish opponent to claim a 7-6 6-4 win.
Ferrero will now play compatriot Fernando Verdasco in the next round in China.
