Heather Watson's fine run in Poitiers came to an end at the semi-final stage on Saturday as she was beaten by Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson.

The British number three had recorded three consecutive victories for this first time season to reach the last four.

However, she was unable to extend her winning run as Arvidsson, who is ranked 146th in the world, prevailed 6-4 2-6 6-2.

Watson is currently 133rd in the WTA rankings and now switches her attention to Barnstaple, where a good showing could see her earn an automatic place in the main draw of next year's Australian Open.
