Gael Monfils got the better of Philipp Kohlschreiber over three sets at the Madrid Open this afternoon.
The Frenchman looked to be losing the first set as he trailed Kohlschreiber by five games to two.
However, Monfils responded by claiming the next five games to wrap up the set 7-5 in his favour.
The next set proved to be equally as tight, with nothing able to separate the two players.
As a result a breaker was required, which Germany's Kohlschreiber won 7-2 to force a deciding set in the Spanish capital.
The third set went with serve until Monfils broke to love to open up a 5-4 advantage. He held his nerve to win 12 points on the bounce and secure a 7-5 6-7 6-4 win.
He will now face Igor Andreev in the next round.
