Amelie Mauresmo named Andy Murray's new coach

Former Australian Open and Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo is confirmed as Andy Murray's new coach.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Amelie Mauresmo has been confirmed as Andy Murray's new coach.

The 34-year-old Frenchwoman will join the Murray camp "initially for the grass-court season".

Murray had been without a coach since his split with Ivan Lendl back in March.

"I'm excited by the possibilities of the new partnership and Amelie is someone I have always looked up to and admired. She's faced adversity plenty of times in her career, but was an amazing player and won major titles, including Wimbledon," said Murray in an official statement.

"I have a very strong coaching team already in place, but I think Amelie brings with her experience and tactical expertise and will push us all to improve. Everyone I know talks very highly of Amelie, as a person and coach, and I'm convinced that her joining the team will help us push on – I want to win more grand slams."

Mauresmo, who has previously worked with Marion Bartoli, Victoria Azarenka and Michael Llodra, won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon back in 2006 before retiring in 2009.
