Jo-Wilfried Tsonga suffers a 6-4 6-4 defeat to Julien Benneteau in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been knocked out of the BNP Paribas Open by Julien Benneteau.

The world number 10 suffered a 6-4 6-4 defeat to fellow Frenchman in the second round at Indian Wells on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was given a stiff test from the start, as he lost the opening set despite saving three of his five break points.

The second set was close as well, but Benneteau held off a spirited performance from Tsonga to book his place in the third round of the tournament.
