Jo-Wilfried Tsonga suffers shock defeat in Cincinnati

Rogers Cup winner Jo-Wilfried Tsonga slumps to defeat against Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open.

Mikhail Youzhny has advanced through to the second round of the Cincinnati Open after taking advantage of a tired-looking Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Tsonga enjoyed a remarkable run in Toronto last week to win the Rogers Cup, but after being forced to play less than 48 hours after his triumph, he couldn't sustain his run of impressive form.

The Frenchman won just 39% points behind his serve in the first set as Youzhny coasted through the opener, and things didn't improve for the Frenchman in the second.

Two more breaks of serve for Youzhny kept him in control of the contest and he eventually ran out a 6-1 6-4 winner in just 68 minutes.

The Russian will now play Andreas Seppi in the last 32.
