The Dane got the better of her opponent in 103 minutes, but not without surviving a scare.

Wozniacki won the first set 6-0 with ease, despite McHale saving two match points.

McHale stepped up her game thereafter and tied the contest at one set each, romping to a 6-1 victory in the second.

Wozniacki could produce only two winners and 14 unforced errors in the second set, but made a comeback in the third and deciding one.

The former world number one took her American opponent in her stride and clinched the set 6-2 to set up a third-round clash against Garbine Muguruza.
