John Davies: Rhodri Jones injury loss "not end of the world"

John Davies admits that losing Rhodri Jones so close to the Rugby World Cup is "not ideal" for Wales, but backs his former side to adapt with the options available.

Ex-Wales prop John Davies has insisted that Warren Gatland has more than enough options to cope with the loss of Rhodri Jones.

The 23-year-old is likely to miss the duration of the Rugby World Cup as a result of a pectoral muscle injury that will see him sidelined for up to 16 weeks.

Despite the loss, which comes on the back of Jonathan Davies also being ruled out, John Davies is adamant that Wales will learn to adapt.

"It's not end of the world but it's not ideal," he told BBC Sport. "But [Gatland's] got three players in the squad who play tight-head with Samson Lee coming back into fitness.

"Any injury for any squad is not ideal, especially at this time when you are about eight weeks away from the World Cup and we haven't even played a game yet."

Davies was capped 34 times for the Red Dragons, while also representing his country at the 1995 World Cup.
