Sale Sharks are in advanced talks with Melbourne Rebels fly-half Danny Cipriani, according to reports.
The Englishman moved to the newly-formed Super 15 outfit on a two-year deal in 2011.
However, it appears that the 24-year-old, who was the Rebels' leading scorer last year, could now be on his way back to England.
When quizzed by BBC Radio Manchester on the possibility of Cipriani joining the club, Sale winger Mark Cueto said: "I honestly don't know.
"I know we've signed a couple of players for next season, a couple of forwards - and one of them is Richie Gray, who's going to be a fantastic signing for us.
"But I know [Steve Diamond] is looking at signing a couple more players and Cips is obviously one of them."
Cipriani, who has made seven appearances for England, has not featured in the international setup for over two years.
